Acokanthera oppositifolia

Boesmansgif / Bushman’s poisontree

Family: Apocynaceae

As their name suggest, these hardy and drought resistant evergreen small trees are used by the Bushmen people of the Kalahari, to make the very poisonous potion they put on their arrow points, when they hunt. Most parts of these trees are HIGHLY POISONOUS.

Their pink-white flowers have a sweet scent and thereafter they bear beautiful dark purple fruit. Insect and fruit eating birds are attracted during this time.
