These trees are surely something for the eye when in flower! With their clusters of honey scented white flowers, it is difficult to not stop and admire them. Their extremely hard wood is great for braai and for burning in fireplaces.

Butterflies cannot resist the flowers and visit these trees in masses. as well as insect eating birds such as Bee-eaters, Apalises, Drongos and Flycatchers.


Impalas, Kudus, Elephants, Nyalas and Bushbucks eat the leaves. Duikers, Bushbucks, Warthogs, Baboons and Bushpigs eat the flowers from the ground. Baboons also eat the fruit. Elephants can often cause huge damage to these trees by tripping of their bark.
