These distinctive bushveld trees have extremely hard wood, and are considered the best campfire and braai wood by many people. Also a favourite for the use of making knopkieries. During autumn and winter a  stunning display of leaf colours ranging between yellow, orange and red can be seen on these trees.

The flowers attracts many insects and insect eating birds such as Shrikes, Thrushes, Babblers, Tits and Wood-hoopoe’s


The leaves of this tree are one of the main food sources for game in many parts of the Bushveld. Bushbucks, Kudu, Impala, Eland, Steenbuck and bigger game like Elephants and Giraffe.
